Fire Hydrants and Farmers Markets

As usual, we did a fair bit of running around on the weekend, including a quick trip to the local farmer's market to get some fresh veggies. This used to mean a trip across town for us, but now it's a quick two block walk - Louise likes it because a lot of other dogs come out for the market too.

Later, we found ourselves deep into suburbia and Louise needed an 'emergency pit stop', so while my wife ran into the next store to do some shopping, the dog and I headed out to find a patch of grass. When I saw Louise sniffing at fire hydrants, I could not help but to take a picture. Way to live the stereotype, Louise.

Oh, and thanks to all the people who responded to say they liked Louise's new stroller. It seems that post has generated more response than most of the other ones I have made recently. I'll try to get more photos up of Louise taking rides in it going forward.

The things we do for Skytrain

So today's commute was a little bit different from the usual routine. First off, we did not take the Aquabus like we usually would. If you recall, we had been using the ferry because dogs are not allowed on the Skytrain, my usual mode of transport.

Well that is not entirely correct. Dogs are allowed on the Skytrain so long as they are caged. Our solution to this was to purchase a dog stroller off of Craigslist. My wife had been looking for a while and eventually found one that somebody had won in a contest, so it was practically new. It is pictured here, and it has more flaps, zippers and pockets than I could ever have imagined.

A few things I noted on the ride in this morning: I had to search to find the elevators, and they are generally much dirtier than the rest of the Skytrain stations. Another thing I noticed is that the stroller is going to be very good for Louise in the summer time as she can get out of the heat. This speeds up our pace and reduces the overall commute time because when she doesn't feel like walking, I can push her along.

Having said all that, I still think there are going to be times when I look for excuses to take the aquabus, just for the fun of it.

In Barclay Park

In Barclay Park

I took this picture on one of our walks through Barclay Park, which is only a few blocks from our place. I think Louise had stopped to look at another dog in the park. Most of that day she was moving too quickly for me to get a decent photo. Lately we have noticed that even in our shady apartment, Louise is minding the heat on warmer days. If things continue to get warm, I can see us taking her to the beach more frequently.
